LITE is the workhorse of the Triton range, and the most affordable one in the family. As the new name suggests, the LITE will now have turbo power.

 

This should translate to better acceleration and lugging power, things the LITE can do with. Like before, the Triton Lite is only available as a 4X2 and with a five-speed manual gearbox.

 The new engine is based on the previous 2.5L eight-valve SOHC IDI diesel engine, but with a turbocharger bolted on. It now makes 89 PS and 196 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, an improvement over the old 75 PS and 149 Nm at 2,500 rpm. That’s a substantial 14 PS and 47 Nm more, and max torque is also made 500 rpm lower.

Other new things include a “stylish designed ‘sedan’ look” (we have no idea either!), new    design 15-inch alloys, chrome finished door handles and side mirrors, plus LITE Turbo stickers for the workhorse. Inside, the new LITE Turbo adds on a dual-tone colour scheme and a new single-DIN head unit with AUX-in jack.

Available in Cool Silver Metallic or White Solid, the Thai-made Triton LITE Turbo is priced at RM65,528.70 on-the-road without insurance. This is around RM1,600 costlier than the non-turbo LITE, which is fair. Buyers will get two years free maintenance on top of the three-year/100,000 km warranty.
